Visitors is a small form 5x8 inch, 72 page book of work from various street photography projects I worked on from 2014 to 2017. Between them there’s a common thread of finding the strange and bizarre aspects of culture and everyday life which for me is part art, entertainment, and social commentary. Heavily influenced by my work as filmmaker and graphic designer, Visitors is – in a way – a graphic novel featuring stories of odd characters and the landscapes they inhabit as if visitors from another planet.
Often I bisect elements with framing producing headless or armless figures alluding to the discriminatory and limited nature of the frame and our own perspective, implying there’s more beyond both – at the same time the technique lends energy and movement to a moment of which its subjects are also just visiting.
Designed to be an unfussy and odd book like its subjects, Visitors’ pages turn from bottom to top and float unframed emerging from black in a nod to our origins in the universe but also the commonality found in our differences.
